Toxoplasma gondii

Toxoplasma gondii

T. gondii is an obligate intracellular sporozoan; both sexual (enteroepithelial) and asexual (extraintestinal) reproductive cycles occur in felines, other species only undergo extraintestinal infection. Most infections are asymptomatic; mild cases with localized lymphadenopathy accompanied with fever, sore throat, rash, mimicking infectious mononucleosis in some individuals. Immunocompromised host suffers from widespread dissemination of the infection with pneumonitis, myocarditis and encephalitis. Congenital cases can result in the abortion and stillbirth, live births may result in the severe central nervous system involvement along with chorioretinitis.

AmpliSens® Toxoplasma gondii-FRT PCR kit is based on total DNA extraction from white blood cells of peripheral and umbilical cord blood, biopsy and autopsy material, cerebrospinal and amniotic fluid with the exogenous Internal Control.
